Irene Alice Schwendemann

Irene Alice Schwendemann passed away September 1, 2017 at TRU Community Hospice Care Center. She was 90 years old.Irene was born on September 7, 1926 in Heron Lake, MN to Reinhold and Dora (Sievert) Heidemann. She graduated from Okabena High School, Okabena, MN. She attended Mankato State Teachers College for two years earning a teaching certificate.On September 11, 1949 she married Walter V. Schwendemann in Benson, MN.In Minnesota Irene taught school in specialized reading classes and also worked as a bookkeeper at a grain elevator.She moved to Longmont in 1977 from Minnesota.Irene was a lifelong Lutheran and a member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont where she also was a part of the bell choir.Irene loved to read and was especially interested in American History and geology. She also enjoyed square dancing, music, and traveling; whether by camper, car or cruise line.She was preceded in death by her parents and eleven brothers and sisters.Irene is survived by her husband Walter; her children Tim Alan Schwendemann, Dori S. Ann, Kay Louise Owens and Wayne Charles Schwendemann; her grandchildren Bridget (Mike) Doyle, Joshua (Caitlin) Owens, Jonathan Owens, and Travis Schwendemann; and her great grandchildren Charlie Doyle, Ray Doyle and Avery Owens.Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday September 5, 2017 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. A funeral will be held at 9:00 AM Wednesday September 6, 2017 at Ryssby Church 9000 N. 63rd St. Longmont, CO 80503. Burial at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
