Helen T. Martinez of Longmont Colorado unexpectedly made her journey from this earth on May 2, 2023. Helen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, daughter, Godmother and friend. Helen made everyone feel like you were part of her family, from the moment you met her right up to the minute you left her house, where she would stand outside and wave goodbye as you drove away.
Helen was born in Longmont, CO on June 17, 1944. She married her adoring husband Robert Martinez on June 19, 1964, starting their strong, loving life and family. Before retiring, Helen worked for many years in the St. Vrain Valley School District as a paraeducator, where every student she worked with always
remembered and loved “Mrs. Martinez” when seeing her outside the school. Helen was a member of St. John’s the Baptist Church in Longmont.
In her younger years, Helen enjoyed softball, volleyball, and bowling. She loved watching all of her professional Colorado sports teams. As her kids, grandkids, and extended family grew up she loved going to their games. She was everyone's number one fan and number one critic! No one could compare to Helen at games, we always knew she was there to fully love and support us. She was the family photographer, making us stand and pose for pictures we most likely would never see, but we loved complaining about. It was just a "Helen thing".
Helen leaves behind her husband of 58 years and 11 months, Robert, her children, Bobby Martinez (Lauri) and Andrea Martinez-Wilson (Willie), plus her grandchildren, Tyson Martinez (Charlea), Amanda Johnson (Jake), Darian Brown, Jaedyn Cramblet (Cooper), Toby Martinez, Delaney Martinez-Wilson, and Ezekiel Martinez-Wilson. In addition, Helen has 6 great-grandchildren; Karter, Maverick, Leighton, Wylde, Rhett, and Jaylen.
Helen will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Joe Mares, Josie Mares, Jane Lovato, and Barbara Martinez (Steve) all of Colorado, and Maryann Dueñes of New Mexico. Helen will remain in the hearts of her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Mary Mares; two children, Shantele and Toby; and her brothers Daniel, John, and Rubel.
Visitation for Helen will be held Tuesday, 05/09/23 from 4:00pm -6:00pm at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont CO, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00pm.
Helen’s celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, 05/10/23 at 10:00am at St. John’s the Baptist Church, with a burial service immediately following at Mountain View cemetery, Longmont. A reception will be held at the American Legion from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at 315 S. Bowen, Longmont CO.
