Ellen Elizabeth Newman

Ellen Elizabeth Newman, 96, of Mead, Colorado, passed away peacefully in her home early Thursday morning July 29th. She was born April 9, 1925 in Tungsten, Colorado to Harold and Lucy Straughn. She spent her childhood years in the mining town of Caribou, Colorado. Her family later moved to Boulder. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1942. She worked as head cook for the Boulder Valley School District and operated her own cake decorating business.

Ellen married Glenn “Pat” Newman February 7, 1945. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in 2016. Ellen and Pat loved to travel, camp and square dance.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Pat; her brother, Kenneth; and her Grandson, Aaron Merriman.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Dan Merriman, Linda and Tony Mollohan; grandsons, Adam Merriman, Travis Thaler; granddaughters, Danielle Thaler, Kristin Merriman, Jamie Merriman, Laura Beck, Kelly McVicar, great grandsons Evan Merriman, Jaden Merriman, Logan Thaler, Grant Thaler and Aaron Merriman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Trail Winds Hospice Foundation.

A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, on Wed August 4th, 2021, at 10am. Reception immediately following, details will be given at the service.
