Cook, Carolyn “Carol” D., age 76, of Longmont, Colorado passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Hover Green House in Longmont. Carol was born on September 5, 1945 in Oklahoma City, OK to Simeon B. Cook and Josephine D. Duncan. Carol was raised in the early years in Clarkdale, Arizona and the family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1953. Carol attended the All Saints Episcopal Girls High School in Vicksburg, MS. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Education at the University of Kentucky, her Masters of Arts at the University of Northern Colorado and her Masters in Specialist in Education at the University of Colorado (Boulder). She moved to the Longmont area in June of 1973. From 1973-1986 she was a teacher at Indian Peaks Elementary. From 1986-1990 she was a Principal at Rocky Mountain Elementary and a Principal at Northridge Elementary from 1990-2003. She retired from the St. Vrain Valley School District in 2003. She was also a School District Drivers Education Trainer from 2003 – 2020. She was on the Board of Directors for the Longmont Humane Society, a member of DAR (Daughters of American Revolution) and a member of the AAUW (American Association of University Women). Anyone that knew Carol, knows how much she loved animals especially dogs and horses. Carol fostered many rescue dogs and raised many St. Bernards. She also had a love of horses and was a horse owner herself. She loved to travel and was able to go to Africa (multiple times), sailed around Cape Horn, visited many European countries, the Galapagos, Machu Picchu and went to Chino, Japan with the student exchange program as a chaperone. She is survived by her first husband John Grannis and her second husband Don Peter. She is also survived by her brothers Simeon (Mary Jane) Cook of Albuquerque, NM and Stuart (Alexa) Cook of San Diego, CA, her nephew Brian Cook and family and a niece Andi Cook. She is preceded in death by her parents Simeon B. and Josephine D. Cook.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Howe Mortuary in Longmont, followed by a reception at Howe Mortuary.
