She was born on July 16, 1934 in Gothenburg, NE to Kenneth and Olive Crowl. She was the youngest child, with siblings Patricia Lightle and Gilbert Crowl. She lived most of her life in Lincoln, NE before moving to Mesa, AZ in retirement along with her husband Warren (“Pete”) Peterson. She moved to Longmont, CO in 2013 to be closer to her daughters Vicki (Herb) Hergott and Laurel Stoddard.
Carol enjoyed a successful career in sales and was proud to be one of the few pioneering women working in traveling sales at the time. In all things, she was committed to ensuring everyone was treated fairly, and in retirement channeled this passion into volunteer roles enforcing proper use of handicapped parking spots and overseeing rules enforcement at golf tournaments. She also leveraged her extensive relationships in the Arizona golf scene to start the annual “Golf Is Where the Heart Is” tournament, benefiting the Women’s Heart Center at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, AZ.
Golf was not just a hobby for Carol, but a true passion, source of identity, and the center of her social life, enjoying countless friendships made on the course. She was an accomplished golfer, winning many tournaments and playing into her 80s. But for all her high-level play, she always said that her favorite rounds were with family, watching them improve at a game she loved so much.
Family was the other cornerstone of Carol’s life, and she was endlessly proud of her two daughters, seven grandchildren, Kyle, Devin, and Joe Stoddard, Jesse Stoddard (deceased), Christy (Eric) Manchester, Jeff (Erica) Moore, Matt (Dianna) Hergott,
and five great grandchildren who she loved dearly and taught to be fair, do what’s right, and treat others with respect while also giving her favorite advice, “make it a good day!”
A Memorial Service is scheduled at Twin Peaks Golf Course Club House at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
