Bob Sanders passed away June 10, 2019. He was 86 years old. Bob was born on August 29, 1932 to Mildred and Bob Sanders in Memphis, TN. He attended high school in Pryor, OK graduating in 1950 and graduated with his B.S. in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University in 1954. After college, he served as a Captain in the US Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1954-1956. Bob received his medical degree through Colorado University in 1962 as a B ttcher Scholar. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Waring Society, and won an award in anatomy surgery. He went on to complete his internship at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital until 1963, when he began work at a family practice in Denver. Bob was a Resident in Radiology from 1965-1967 at University of Colorado Medical Center and was Chief Resident from 1967-1968. He was an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Colorado at Denver General Hospital from 1968-1980. Between 1980-1991, Bob practiced radiology at RHD Memorial Hospital, Dallas, TX and Nantucket General Hospital, Nantucket, MA. He worked Locum Tenens in Radiology from 1991 until his retirement in 1995.While in the Army and throughout his life Bob widely traveled the world and the United States. Among his other hobbies were bike riding, mountain hiking, jewelry design, hunting mushrooms, skiing, travel and fly-fishing, especially with his son, Scott, on a yearly trip to 4UR in Creede, CO, photography, and playing the guitar. Bob loved classical music, opera (Sandy and Bob attended many operas at the Met in New York City). He was a veracious reader and a lover of p try.He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, and before his health began to fail, he belonged to a Men's Bible Study. He found joy in the annual Kirking of the Tartan, acting as the Beadle.He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke.Bob married Donna Simmons and she was a loving mother to their two children, Scott and Julie. Bob and Donna divorced. Bob and Sandy married in 1996 and moved to Longmont in 1997.They enjoyed their life together and had many happy and fun trips and experiences.Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy; a sister, Jean Son and nephew, Randy Son; son, Scott Sanders (Ellen); daughter, Julie Byrne (David); and step-children, Cynthia, Jennifer, Rebecca Pierce (Lee), and Mark; grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, June 30, 2019 at CENTRALongmont Presbyterian Church. Military Honors and inurnment at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be 1:15 pm Monday, July 1 2019.
