Amy Lynn Seelig

Amy Lynn (Benson) Seelig passed away peacefully with her beloved husband Eric and dear friend by her side, knowing that she was deeply loved and cared for by a devoted community of friends and family who supported her through her three-and-a-half-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Amy was born and raised in Denver. Growing up, she pursued gymnastics and cheerleading. She attended Overland High School, where she graduated with honors. She formed many lifelong friendships in high school. She attended the University of Colorado for her undergraduate degree (also graduating with honors). While at CU, she rowed on the crew team. She continued at CU, earning a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. In graduate school, she formed a friendship with her classmates that lasted the rest of her life. Every year, they would get together to celebrate their unbreakable bond.

After graduate school in 1997, she moved to Coos Bay, Oregon, to complete her Certificate of Clinical Competence as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Amy worked with children from low-income families in rural areas. She loved the Oregon coast and spoke fondly of the beaches. She returned to Colorado in 1998 to continue her work as an SLP. In 1999, she married Ryan Roberts and lived in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They divorced in 2006. Eric always believed that Ryan was her place holder in time until he could find her. While living in the Foothills, she attained her special education license and taught at Coal Creek Elementary School as a special education teacher. It was through one of her students (Cody) that the connection between Eric and Amy was made.

In 2008, Amy and Eric were married. They moved to Erie, CO, with their two dogs and two cats. They boarded their two horses nearby. From 2007 to 2008, Amy worked in Adams County District 50 as an SLP. In 2008, she began the year-long journey to becoming certified in "Hippotherapy" and a Therapeutic Riding Instructor. She worked as an SLP doing hippotherapy at the Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center until 2019. While there, she touched countless lives, including volunteers, children, their parents, and administrative staff. She often came home from CTRC and declared, "I love my job!"

In 2016, Amy and Eric were blessed with a daughter named Reverie. Of all the things that made Amy happy, nothing made her happier than being a mother. It was her greatest joy.

In 2017, Amy, Eric, and Reverie moved to West Berthoud, where they brought their animals to a beautiful 2 1/2 acre property. They were all together: humans, horses, dogs, and cats. From 2019-2020, Amy worked part-time in several capacities at the Western Institute for Neurodevelopmental Studies and Interventions. Her roles included SLP, special education teacher, and reading specialist. She spent the rest of the time being a mother, her favorite "job" of all.

Next in line to being a mother, Amy was happiest when she was:

-Outdoors hiking in the woods.

-Swimming/paddling in/on a lake.

-Snorkeling in the ocean.

-Sitting on a beach.

In nature was where she was her best self, followed by enjoying the company of her many friends and family, preferably outdoors, listening to music and BBQing.

This obituary would not be complete without mentioning her fantastic smile, her ridiculously huge heart-warming, and fantastic smile.

Amy is survived by her husband, Eric; her daughter, Reverie; her mother, Sandra Benson (Tim Black); her father, Roger Benson; her sister, Sara Benson; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a large circle of friends who will find her in the sunsets she treasured, the beaches she visited and the songs that marked each season of her life.

Amy's Celebration of Life and Memorial Service, followed by a reception with light fare, will be held on December 16th at 2:30 pm at the Erie Recreation Center, 450 Powers St. Erie, CO (303) 926-2550.
