Sylvia Ann Kusza, beloved sister, aunt, godmother, and retired educator, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024. Sylvia was born to Chester and Stephanie Filipkowski in Detroit, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Kusza, her parents Chester and Stephanie, her sister Rose, and her brother Chester Joseph.
Sylvia dedicated over 35 years of her life to teaching, positively influencing the lives of countless students at St. Andrew in Detroit and St. Linus in Dearborn Heights. Her commitment to education and nurturing young minds left a mark on the community she served.
Beyond her professional life, Sylvia was an enthusiastic boater, finding peace and joy navigating the waters of the St. Clair River. She was an alumna of the University of Michigan, where her loyalty to the Wolverines ran deep, making her a devoted fan throughout her life.
Sylvia will be dearly missed by her surviving brother John Filipkowski, as well as her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and godchildren, who cherished her guidance and affection.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, July 26, 2024, at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Sylvia's family will receive visitors at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and again at Church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 9:30 am. A burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may consider donations in Sylvia's name to Madonna University.
