Steven Paul Alfoldy, age 88 of Birmingham, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Steve and Mary (Lankey) Alfoldy. Steven graduated from Redford High School in 1953. While working for the City of Detroit, Steven met the love of his life, Barbara (Laforest) Alfoldy. The two were married on August 25, 1956, at St. Christopher’s Church in Detroit. Together they had two children, Steven and Suzanne.
After graduating from the University of Detroit in 1960, Steven went to work at the family business, Schoolcraft Auto Parts in Detroit, Michigan, which ultimately became a chain of auto parts stores in Metro Detroit known as Budget Auto Parts. Steven sold the business in 1989 and took on the role of Vice President Operations at Tishken Products Co. where he worked until he retired.
Steven was a longtime resident of Northville, Michigan and was an active member at St. Kenneth’s Catholic Church, leading many church picnics and fish fries over the years. In 2004, Steven and Barbara moved to Estero, Florida to get away from the cold Michigan winters. Steven was active with the Fountain Lakes community association and enjoyed spending his retirement with friends and family. The couple returned to Northville in February 2021 to be closer to family.
Steven loved fishing and spent much of his free time out on the lake at the family’s cottage in Northern Michigan. He taught his children, grandchildren and many extended family members how to fish and made sure they knew to “set the hook” when the fish hit the line. Steven also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, entertaining family and friends, and the Detroit Tigers.
Steven will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and dear friend.
Steven is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara, and his sister Diane (Alfoldy) Elliott.
Steven is survived by his children, Steven (Marian) Alfoldy, Suzanne (Dan) Tarchala; grandchildren Joshua Tarchala, Madison Tarchala, Anthony West, Tabitha Rudy and Rachel Barnes, along with his nieces and nephew, extended family and many dear long-time friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N. Haggerty Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, and again at church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am.
