Mary Eileen Murphy, known as “Aunt Minnie” to some, born on April 23, 1953, the beloved daughter of Edward and Eileen (Haag) Murphy, passed away on February 19, 2024. Mary Eileen dedicated her life to selfless service, leaving an indelible mark on those she touched.
A proud Irish woman, Mary’s love for her heritage was evident in every aspect of her life. She had a deep affection for the beach, a passion for traveling to Ireland, and a profound connection to her roots. Her adventurous spirit and love for exploration made her a true bookworm, always seeking knowledge and sharing it with those around her.
Her wit was unparalleled, and her laughter could light up the darkest of days. Mary had a unique ability to find joy in the simplest moments and share that joy generously with others. Whether through a clever remark or a hearty laugh, she had a way of bringing sunshine into the lives of those around her, and that is what her family will miss most about her.
Mary’s professional journey reflected her compassionate nature. She served as a social worker for hospice, providing comfort and support to those in their most vulnerable moments. Prior to that, she worked at St. Francis Home for boys, demonstrating her commitment to the well-being and development of young lives. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will be forever cherished.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her brother John Murphy, sister-in-law Jenny Murphy, and brother-in-law Terry McParlane.
To honor her memory, Mary is survived by her son Robert Brodis and seven siblings: Gerald Murphy, Anne (Dennis) Renaud, Patricia McParlane, Michael (Sandra) Murphy, Patrick (Karen) Murphy, Bridget (David) Carbott, and James (Deborah) Murphy, sister in law Lisbeth Murphy many nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.
Her kindness, warmth, and selflessness will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of South East Michigan, a cause close to Mary’s heart.
May she rest in peace, and may her family find solace in the memories they shared with this remarkable woman.
