Leonard was born at home in Detroit, Michigan to Ernest and Mary Valente (nee Angelosanto) and grew up with three brothers; Ernest (Geraldine) Valente, Edward (Carol) Valente and Michael (Richard Frayne) Valente along with three sisters; Mary (John) Olexsy, Helen (Ronald) Priest and Constance (John) Nardone. He met Dolores (nee Bohrer) and they were married on his 27th birthday in 1960. They moved to Livonia to start a family welcoming Leonard James in 1963 and Paul in 1966.
Leonard started work at General Motors in 1975 completing a skilled trades apprenticeship program and working the rest of his career as a machine repairman in the GM forging facility in Detroit. He retired in 1996.
Leonard loved animals and loved to watch live sports. Hockey most of all. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the defunct Plymouth Whalers and watched many junior-level hockey tournaments throughout the years making many friends along the away.
He was beloved by all that met him, but no one loved him more than his family. He loved being with them. He was a dear man that will be greatly missed.
