Jane Ann “Janie” Kerr of Redford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2020, just short of her 81st birthday. She was born on July 6, 1939 to Vivian and Charles Griffiths, the younger sister to Charles and Harry. She is survived by her loving husband Charles (Dale), her three daughters and their husbands: Linda (Dave) Yudasz; Diane (Dave) Resseguie; Kathryn (Bill) Kercorian; and her grandchildren: Joey (Karissa) and Jon Yudasz; Matthew and Megan Resseguie; Dale and Emma Kercorian; and her brother-in-law, Ralph Kerr.
Jane was a 1957 graduate of Commerce High School in Detroit, where she focused on a business education. While there Janie met many lifelong friends, was President of the Business Teens Association, worked co-op and volunteered as a library staff member and for the girls’ athlete association. After graduation and a trip to California with friends where she worked that summer, Janie settled in back in Michigan as a secretary at Liberty Mutual and then Marathon Oil. It was during that time that Janie met Dale. Dale and Janie were married in 1962 at Garden City Presbyterian Church. They honeymooned in Bermuda and returned to their life together in a small flat, continuing to work hard and have fun. You would often find them with family and friends; bowling or playing cards. Harbor Beach on Lake Huron was a favorite weekend getaway with their friends.
When they learned they were pregnant with their first little girl, it was time to buy a house. In 1964, they bought what would become their forever home in Redford - welcoming Linda and two more daughters, Diane and Kathryn. Their home expanded far beyond the four outer brick walls; they became fast friends with their neighbors and all of them together built a very large loving family in Redford, the “Tecumseh” family.
Janie was a sweet caring wife, mom and grandma. She was very organized, honest, and quick with a hug and a word of advice. She selflessly supported her community and children; always volunteering at school, church, youth athletics (RTJAA), and girl scouts. Once her daughters had all left the house, she continued to serve her community by going back to work as a secretary at St. Paul Presbyterian Church. She and Dale loved to travel to Vegas each year beginning the year of their 25th wedding anniversary. Jane was always a lucky one. Her favorite indoor hobbies were reading and puzzles –jigsaw, variety word puzzles, crosswords and sudoku. She will be remembered for her kindness and loving nature by all who knew her. She lived for her family.
Family and close friends of Jane Ann will celebrate her life with visitation at Harry J. Will Funeral Home at 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan on Friday, July 10th from 3-8 pm followed by a funeral service on Saturday, July 11th at 5 pm. Social distancing protocols in accordance with State guidelines will be in effect.
