James “Jim” Alfred Hugh Badeen, aged 65, of New Hudson, Michigan passed away on Sunday December 29, 2019, after an extended battle with cancer. He was born September 13, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri to Louise Hugh (Hale) Badeen and the late Fr. John Alfred Badeen.
Jim was a retired Major in the US Army Military Police Corp having served at many bases stateside, in Honduras, and during the first Persian Gulf War. Prior to joining the military, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Boy Scout troop “Lucky” 13. He attended Eastern Michigan University on an Army ROTC Scholarship obtaining a Bachelors of Science in Political Science with a minor in Military Science. He married his wife of 42 years, Linda Rose Domeier, of Ann Arbor, MI, in 1977.
James was an avid singer having been a member of multiple choirs, including the St. Michael Orthodox Church Choir and the St. Romano’s Chorale in Texas; and the St. Mary Basilica Choir, and the Council of Orthodox Churches Choir in Michigan. He worked to build ACORN radio a pan orthodox worldwide radio broadcast while in Beaumont, TX and later in life, helped to start Detroit’s Own Orthodox Radio Network (DOOR), serving as the host and producer of the weekly radio broadcast for over 200 episodes reaching thousands of listeners worldwide.
He served as mentor coordinator for the 17th District Veterans Court in Redford, MI, advocating for and helping guide veterans having difficulty acclimating to civilian life. Jim worked alongside his brother, George, as the operations manager at Midwest Auto Auction for the past 20 years.
He was well known for his story telling, pulling from all aspects of his experiences in life, often commanding a crowd and leaving with new friends. He was a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Rose; daughter, Dana Marie and her husband Marijn Beije; son, Kevin John Hugh and his wife Jodie; granddaughters, Eliana, Brooke, and Brynn; mother, Louise; sister, Farida; brother, George and his wife Lynne.
His funeral service will be held at 11am, January 2, 2020 at St Mary Basilica, 18200 Merriman Rd, Livonia, with visitation at 10:30 am. He will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on January 7 at 1:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' memory may be made to Basilica of St Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church.
