Sunday, September 30, 2018 is a day that we won’t soon forget. Dorothy Latcha, our mom, grandma, sister, and friend was called home to the welcoming arms of our loving Lord and Savior. To mom, age was truly a state of mind. Even at 95, she lived independently and was in good health. In fact, after losing her husband Albert three years earlier, she looked forward to living by herself for the first time in her life…at age 91 (and she loved it). Charming, funny, practical, feisty and not shy about sharing her opinion, Dorothy was raised in Detroit with her three sisters (late Mary Ann Pacholski, late Jean Formell and Janet Gentner). After marrying at 29, Dorothy was committed to doing the hardest job in the world, a homemaker raising her four kids – Paul (Corrine), late Susan, Michael (Celest) and David (Jennifer), where she did a lot with little and no one ever wanted for anything. And then she added grandma to her resume – Michael, Hillary, Victoria, Zachary and Theodore. And at an age when most people start slowing down, she even started to volunteer, delivering Meals On Wheels. She was devoted in her faith and served as Eucharistic Minister at her church.
Her memorial gathering will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 2-8pm at the Harry J Will Funeral Home, Livonia. Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 11am at St. John XXII Parish (formerly St John Bosco), 12100 Beech Daly, Redford, MI 48239. Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
