Robert Haskell Broder

Robert H. Broder, 90 passed away February 21, 2023. Born in Newark, he was the son of Abraham and Helen (Sobel) Broder, who raised him in West Orange with his siblings Marilyn, Renee, and Stanley, all of blessed memory. He lived in Short Hills for many years before moving to New Providence. Robert (Bob) was President of Broder Credit and Collection Company. He was very proud that he never retired from running his business.

Bob graduated from Johns Hopkins University. He was a longtime member of Temple B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills and a former member of Orange Lawn Tennis Club. For years he volunteered with the Millburn First Aid Squad. Predeceased by his wife, Adele, he is survived by his three sons, Michael (Mary Lee), Thomas, and James (Shannon) and his four beloved grandchildren, Katie (Kyle Richless,) Brian, Finn, and Teddy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who provided much love and comfort over the past months, in particular, with their frequent visits, phone calls, and cards.

Robert’s greatest joy was spending time with his large family and lifelong friends. He always loved a great meal, a good laugh, and attending Kittredge family reunions in Nantucket and on Cape Cod with his nine brother and sister in laws and many nieces and nephews. Bob will be missed at the Millburn Deli, where he was a “regular.” He was the proud senior member of “Vince’s Gang,” a group of Michael’s high school friends who always included him in outings. Bob always enjoyed weekly lunches with his longtime pals, The Romeo’s, and spending time with his girlfriend, Beth Furman.

A private interment with family will be held on Friday, February 24, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 at Congregation B’Nai Jeshurun, 1025 South Orange Avenue, in Short Hills.
