Beloved husband of Anita Solan (nee Rush). Loving father of Renata (Douglas Haynes) and David (Mey Veral). Cherished grandfather (paca) of Iris and Lila Haynes. Adoring brother of Deb (Roy) Spiegel and Fern (Dan) Dougherty. Larry practiced law for a decade before finding his true career of scholarship and teaching as a professor at Brooklyn Law School, where he worked for 27 years. There, he founded the Center for Law, Language, and Cognition.
Born to Harold and Shirley (nee Smith) Solan, Larry grew up in Teaneck, NJ among a large, close-knit family spanning several generations. He loved baseball, music, books, and the absurdity of the era’s sitcoms.
After graduating from Brandeis University, Larry went on to complete a PhD in linguistics at University of Massachusetts followed by a law degree from Harvard. It was during his time in graduate school that Larry met the love of his life, Anita. Together, they built a life full of travel, classical music, art, theater, literature, and a deep love and respect for their family, their community, and most of all, each other.
Larry cared deeply about kindness, justice, and friendship.
