Jean A. Cox, of Rensselaer, NY, formerly of Livingston, NJ, peacefully passed away on July 11, 2024, listening to the music of Frank Sinatra at the Joan Nicole Prince Home in the NY Capital District where Jean moved in 2016 to be near her beloved daughter Ellen and son in law Ed.
Jean was born on January 3, 1923, to Peter and Rose DeLuca in Newark, NJ. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended Montclair State College.
Jean met her husband, Eddie Cox, in Newark, and they were married on September 14, 1946, after he returned from his service in the army in WWII. Jean and Eddie spent 53 wonderful years together before his passing in 1999. Jean and her sister Florence and cousin Aunt Mary all moved to Livingston in 1954 and lived next to each other until their passing. They shared a great family dynamic with their children living in such close proximity with one another.
Jean worked at Foster Wheeler Corporation in Livingston, NJ, as an Administrative Assistant in their Accounting Department. She retired at age 62. Jean was very active in the Livingston Chapter of AARP and supported many nonprofit organizations with her generous donations.
Jean and Eddie enjoyed playing cards with friends, bowling, going to Atlantic City, riding bikes on the boardwalk, and playing golf together. They owned a house in the Poconos, where they enjoyed playing bocce and cards with friends, as well as playing golf. Jean was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, and an artist. Jean and Eddie both loved spending time with their grandchildren, where Jean would do art projects with the kids, and Eddie would teach the kids to throw a ball and play poker.
Jean was also predeceased by her parents, Peter and Rose DeLuca, and her sister Florence. She is survived by her daughter Ellen Flink (Edward); her three grandchildren, Aaron Flink (Michelle), Rachel Flink-Bochacki (Ryan), and Rebecca Courson (Ryan); seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A small family service will be held at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home on July 24, 2024, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
