Jack Lieberman

Jack Lieberman was born on November 29, 1932 in Johannesburg, South Africa to immigrant parents from eastern Europe. The youngest of three children, he graduated from Parktown Boys High School before becoming the first member of his family to attend college, where he earned a degree in Pharmacy.

Jack met and fell in love with Bernice Tanner, who grew up on the other side of Johannesburg, and they married in 1956. They were blessed with three wonderful sons Lawrence, Steven and Paul.

After graduation Jack spent a short time as a retail pharmacist. He realized quickly, though, that this was not what he wanted for his career, and subsequently joined Squibb Pharmeceuticals as a medical representative. Having now found his calling, Jack moved through the corporate ranks rapidly, ultimately becoming the Marketing Director for South Africa.

In 1968, Jack and Bernice made a significant decision, and Jack accepted a promotion to the position of General Manager of Squibb, Iran. After four years in Iran, it was back to South Africa, where Jack assumed the role of General Manager. The family remained in Johannesburg for three years before Jack accepted the role of General Manager of Latin America for Squibb, which required yet another familial relocation – this one to Mexico City. This was ultimately followed, five years later, by a move to corporate headquarters in Princeton, NJ – where Jack and Bernice decided to put down permanent roots, and built what became the family home for the next 40 years.

After almost four decades with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Jack retired at the age of 57 – and he and Bernice began splitting time between Princeton and their home in West Palm Beach. Tennis, golf and family were now priorities with a laser-focus on grandchildren Blake, Lexi, Becca, Kendall, Eric, Paige and Yve.

In 2022, after 66 years of marriage, Jack lost Bernice, his wife and life-mate. Jack subsequently redoubled his involvement in board positions and advisory roles at Winchester Gardens, the community that ultimately became their final home in Maplewood, NJ. In this capacity he helped launch multiple successful marketing campaigns and was a key member of the owner-advisory board.

Jack will be missed by all who knew him. He was a gregarious, kind, loving man who leaves behind his sons Larry (Lisa), Steve (Risa), Paul (Sarah) and grandchildren Blake, Lexi, Becca, Kendall, Eric, Paige and Yve.
