Edward Joseph Gallagher, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Livingston, NJ. Born in Orange, NJ, to the late John and Mary Gallagher, Edward resided in Livingston for over 50 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany during the Korean War. He was an avid sports fan, especially the NY Mets and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He worked for many years as an iron worker, and later as a custodian for the Livingston Public School for 18 years, before his retirement. Edward greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family.
Edward was predeceased by his brothers, John, James, Robert, and William Gallagher, his sisters Jean Plumstead and Maureen Corvino, and his son-in-law Terry C. Bentley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy Irene (Harrigan); his loving daughters, Karen K. Gallagher-Devita and Lori A. Bentley; his cherished grandchildren Kaitlin M. Bentley, Shannon R. Bentley, Edward C. Bentley, and Ryan Joseph Devita; his adoring great-grandchildren Scarlett D. Bentley and Everleigh M. Shane; and his sister Patricia Wahlers, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 3-7pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, April 29 at 10am at St. Philomena Church, Livingston, NJ. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s name may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to a charity of your choosing.
