The loving daughter of the late Albert and Jeanne Makon (both of Blessed memory), Carole was born in Newark in 1934. She graduated from Upsala College with a Bachelor’s Degree and worked for many years as a teacher in the Newark Public School System. The loving wife of the late Cantor Norman Summers of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills, she performed her role as a cantor’s wife with pride. In addition, she taught in the temple’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah program. A long time resident of Livingston, she was involved in her children’s schools and never missed an opportunity to attend their plays and sporting events. Carole had an affinity and talent for all kinds of puzzles and games, playing competitive bridge as well as canasta. She was a woman who always went out of her way to help others, whether a friend or stranger.
Carole will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and community.
Carole is survived by her children Sharon Seltzer (Scott), Dara Arden (Wayne), and Dan Summers. Carole was the adored grandmother to Sydney Seltzer, Laurel Seltzer, Alexandra Blazek and Sammy Seltzer. She was also a cherished sister to Susan Makon Pollack.
A funeral service for Carole will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Lehman Chapel at B’nai Jeshurun Cemetery, 1351 Lower Road, Elizabeth, NJ 07208. Shiva will be observed at 3:00 PM at Temple B’nai Jeshurun, 1025 South Orange Avenue, Short Hills, NJ 07078.
