Carole Ann McCarthy (nee Ott) 80, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue Livingston, NJ, on Wednesday December 29, 2021 from 4-8 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philomena Church 396 South Livingston Avenue Livingston, NJ, on Thursday December 30, 2021 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
Carole was born and raised in Newark, N.J to the late Margaret (Keating) and Alfred Ott. She attended St. Ann’s grade school in Newark, NJ and graduated from East Orange High School Class of 1959. Carole loved her first job at Oppenheim-Collins. She worked at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark then Resistoflex in Roseland before marrying her darling husband, Paul J. McCarthy in 1961. They settled in Livingston in 1966 where they raised their five children. Carole was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She loved the beach, vacations at the Jersey Shore and camping along the Eastern Seaboard with her family. Carole was a great cook and could whip up anything from scratch.
Carole loved the New York Yankees with a passion. She so enjoyed her sons’ little league games where her husband never missed a game. She loved reading, crossword puzzles and time spent with her grandchildren. Carole always had a furry companion throughout most of her life. Carole’s family was her life. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Philomena Church.
Carole was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. McCarthy. She was the loving mother of Paul McCarthy and his wife, Tina, Maureen McCarthy, Tara Mary Maresca, Michael McCarthy and John McCarthy and his wife, Cynthia; dear sister of Philip Ott, Madeline Magnotta and her husband, John; cherished grandmother of Nicholas (fiancée Kassidy), Casey and Jessica Maresca, Jenna McCarthy and John McCarthy, Jr.; step-grandmother to Britteny, Vincent and Daniel O’Brien; great-grandmother to Averianna, Daniel and Benjamin O’Brien; and great-grandson arriving in April, Chase Vincent Maresca. She also leaves her loving, wild golden, Rory.
She was predeceased by her dear siblings and in-laws, Alfred and Joan Ott, Dolores and James McCarthy, Janice Ott and Nicholas McCarthy, as well as her father and mother-in-law, Nicholas and Bella McCarthy. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, 194 Route 10, East Hanover, NJ 07936 would be appreciated.
