Phyllis Marie McCown

Phyllis Marie McCown, age 91, went to be with our Lord on February 13, 2024. She was born on July 9, 1932 in Little Rock, AR and was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Michael Hampel and Marie Hart Hampel; her son Brian Mitchell McCown; granddaughter Rachael Stewart; and son-in-law Nathan Hartzell and former spouse Robert McCown.

She graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s Academy in Little Rock, AR and received her BS in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas and her M.S. in Foods and Nutrition from Louisiana Tech. She worked as a Clinical Dietician and retired from Overton Brooks Medical Ctr., Shreveport, LA.

Phyllis loved to travel both in the U.S. and abroad. She was an avid reader. enjoyed working crossword puzzles and 1,000 piece board puzzles. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shreveport, LA, where she served as a greeter and lector.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister Dana Jo Hampel Tueller (Ron), her son Steven McCown (wife Joyce and granddaughters Candice and Chelsea (Eric)); two daughters, Sheila Hartzell (grandsons Adam, Ethan (Charlotte), Evan (Susanna) and Alex, granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily); and daughter Elise Hawks (husband Robert and grandsons Jacob (Micayla) and Griffin; daughter in-law Sonya McCown, granddaughters Michelle Eddins (Cody), Jennifer McCown; along with cousins and great grandchildren. She considered her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren her greatest blessings.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Graveside services will be held 11:00A.M Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock, AR.
