Neita Roper, 89, of Little Rock Arkansas, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019, with her daughters by her side. Mrs. Roper was born January 1, 1930, in England, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Charlie C. Hughey and Gussie Elizabeth (Helmick) Hughey. She was also preceded by brothers and sisters, Charleen Tipton, H.L. Hughey, Charlie Hughey, Kitty Grace Chambers, A.K. Hughey and Bobby Frank Hughey.
Mrs. Roper is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Roper) Bryan of Little Rock; Amy (Roper) Finley of Cabot; grandsons, Connor and Jackson Bryan of Little Rock, Wade Finley III of Cabot, and her brother, Lloyd Lee Hughey of North Little Rock.
She owned her own private school "Roper School" for over 29 years. One of her great accomplishments was getting the school accredited through the state of Arkansas. She enjoyed teaching young minds of all ages, and touched over 17,400 students enrolled in her school over the years. Each of her students was provided with a Bible as well as a hand written note from her upon graduation. She also owned a children’s clothing store "YoungLand".
Post-Retirement, she became an avid volunteer with Bryant Senior Center; Bryant Meals on Wheels; the Bryant Chamber of Commerce; the Save a Life Pregnancy Center in Decatur, Alabama; the Conway Arkansas Woman’s Shelter of Central Arkansas; and made sleep beds for the homeless.
She was an avid bunko, dominos and card player. She was extremely competitive and loved winning.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Neita’s name to Lonoke County Safe Haven, PO Box: 414 Cabot, Arkansas 72023.
A Celebration of life will be held at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church on Sunday, February 24, 2019, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm.
