Robert J. "Bob" Nelson ,82, of North Myrtle Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday. (December 21,2023) at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hartford CT on September 5, 1941, son of the late Paul J. and Estelle (Davis) Nelson. He was the husband of the late Lorraine Nelson. A graduate of Coventry High School, Bob attended UConn University, where he remained a lifelong fan of any UConn sport. As a sports fan, he enjoyed the Patriots and most recently the Atlanta Braves and the USC Gamecocks. Bob retired from Vernon Lanes Bowling Alley where he was a bowling alley mechanic for 40 years.
In 2021, Bob moved to North Myrtle Beach with his daughter, Debbie. He loved the warmth and sunshine and spent his days "following" the sun from the back porch to the front porch. In his early years, Bob enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles and bowling. During his last few years, he loved watching the turtles sunning and swimming in the pond at his home. He also enjoyed visiting casinos and was always lucky with his “scratch off" tickets. A true family man, Bob loved his children and grandchildren. He tried to never miss an opportunity to watch his grandchildren play sports or dance and was their biggest cheerleader. Bob was a lover of animals and especially his dogs.
Surviving is his son, Robert Nelson (wife, Tina); daughters, Kim Sears (husband, Chris), Debbie Beebe (husband, David); grandchildren, Jessica Beebe (fiancé, Tyler Gustafson), Kaitlyn Beebe, Ryan Sears and Aiden Sears. Bob is also survived by sisters, Linda White (husband, Robert) and Janice Palmquist (husband, Timothy). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. His brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Janet Nelson preceded Bob in death.
