John Claude Hunter, 75, died May 18, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Johnny was a fighter, he fought long and hard for 4 years after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He truly was an inspiration to all that loved him throughout his various treatments.
Born on January 27, 1945 in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late James H. and Lenora Thomas Hunter.
Johnny graduated from Broadway High School in 1963 and completed multiple technical programs. He worked in the telephone industry for 38 years. Johnny was also a proud former member of the Army Reserves.
After retirement, Johnny and his wife, Diane, moved to the N. Myrtle Beach in 1991 where he enjoyed not being on a schedule. He enjoyed going out on his boat and fishing with family and friends. His favorite pastime of all was watching his grandchildren play softball and baseball. When able he attended the games to cheer them on. When he was no longer able to attend their games he would faithfully watch via Game Changer. He was their biggest fan.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Diane Clayton Hunter; one son, Jonathan Hunter and his wife, Dawn; brother, James Hunter and his wife Patty Lou; sister, Janice Long and her husband Larry; and two grandchildren, Madison and Jake Henry Hunter. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by one brother, Charles Hunter and one sister, Pam Simpson.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
