“Every artist dips her brush into her own soul and paints her own truth into her pictures.” Becky Stowe was born in Belmont, North Carolina and resided in Salisbury, North Carolina before finding her way to the beach in1983. Her parents Roy and Hilda Stowe and sister, Sharon Stowe Lucas preceded her in death. Her brother Phil Stowe currently lives in Salisbury. While attending Boyden High School, Becky was voted “Most Talented” in 1961. She married Robert Monroe Rodgers and had two daughters Elisha Rodgers Sabido (Michael) of Cornelius, NC and Susan Rodgers Lolley (John) of Amelia Island, FL. Becky worked for years at Zimmerman’s Department Store designing the windows and sketching the newspaper ads. In her spare time, Becky taught art lessons to school children and played tennis as often as possible. She later moved to North Myrtle Beach and was swept off her feet and eventually married to Milford Earl Powell. Milford has a son John Earl Powell who resides in Beaufort, South Carolina. Milford and Becky took their love for each other and their mutual love of the Shag Dance and Beach Music to the next level. Beach Memories and The Pirates Cove became iconic destinations for Shaggers to stop in, chat and exchange Shag memorabilia or dance the night away over a few drinks. Becky used her talent to create SOS prints for the Spring Safaris and Fall Migrations every year. Her artwork graced the cover of The Carefree Times. The awards and donations that Becky has received and given are too numerous to list here. The water tower in North Myrtle Beach will always remind us of a very special lady who cared deeply about this beach community. Not only was she talented but Becky was extremely smart and exceptionally beautiful. She was run/walking a 5k with her First Strides group just 6 weeks before she left this life. She was a mentor in this group and wants it’s members to keep walking! Becky was known for her sweet smile and soft, southern soul. She is the friend, the sister, the wife, the mother and the grandmother that everyone admires. Becky has two grandsons, Cameron John Sabido of Charlotte, NC and Justin Isaac Sabido of Cornelius, NC. She will always be loved by her family and friends and of course, Never Forgotten. A memorial will be held at a later date to give Becky the sendoff that she deserves. Love to all that have reached out and supported Becky and her family during this difficult time.
