Dennis Scott Railing, 81, went on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 12, 2024, in Carolina Shores, North Carolina. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 6, 1943, in Poughkeepsie, NY, and graduated from Arlington High School in 1961. He received a BA from Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg, FL. He dedicated four years serving in the U.S. Air Force before embarking on a 27-year career with IBM. He later expanded his diverse interests by opening two hammock stores in South Carolina and also becoming a Real Estate broker in several states.
A man of faith, Dennis was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and has been a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea since 1993. He was a member of the American Legion Post 503 and Elks Lodge #2679 in Calabash, NC. His hobbies included baseball, golf, boating, music, and painting, reflecting his love for an active life.
Dennis's kindness, generosity, and humor left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. He was a devoted family man and is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia; son, Brett Railing and daughter, Patricia Yost (Jeremy); grandchildren Brittany, Matthew, Sam, Carson, Vail, Haven, and Boone; great-grandchildren Jameson and Asher; and brother, Richard Railing (Susan). He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Shannon Railing Gaylord (Todd), numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and June Mackey Railing; son, Scott Railing; and brother, John Railing.
The Railing family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Dennis's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We would also like to thank the wonderful people with Hospice for their care, love and support.
The Mass of Christian Burial to honor his life will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on July 25th, 2024, at 11am, located at 1100 8th Ave N, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare (Hospice), 955 Mercy Ln SE, Bolivia, NC 28422. Lee Funeral Home of Little River, SC, is assisting the family during this time.
