Charles Stanley McCune, Jr., (75), of Little River, SC, went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2023, after a long battle with MS and cancer. He passed into eternity with his wife Miriam by his side, who was his faithful caregiver until the end.
Charles, known by all his friends as Stan, was born to Jane Hambright-McCune Bryant and Charles McCune on July 23, 1947, in Ridley Park, PA. In 1965 he graduated from Sun Valley Highschool in Aston, PA. As a young man he trusted Christ as his Savior and surrendered to God’s call to full-time ministry. Stan graduated from Bob Jones University in 1969 with a degree in Bible and went on to serve the Lord faithfully with his life. Upon graduating he became an assistant Pastor at Marietta Baptist Tabernacle in Marietta, GA, and soon after at Harbor Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC, where he met and wed his wife of fifty years, Miriam (Shelby). They then served together in Newington, CT, at Emmanuel Gospel (now Baptist) Church, working with the youth group from the years 1974 until 1979. Stan then pastored Founders Baptist Church in Dover, NJ, from the years 1979 until 2015. During these years he also ministered as chaplain at St. Clare’s Hospital and Compassionate Care program and at Regency Grande Nursing home in Dover, NJ, as well as the team chaplain of the Somerset Patriots. In 2015 Stan and Miriam retired to the North Myrtle Beach, SC area, where they became faithful members of Anchor Baptist Church in Little River.
Stan was a devoted husband, father, Poppie, and pastor. Stan delighted to converse over a cup of coffee about life, ministry, the Bible and sports, being an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams. His friends and family appreciated his listening ear and insightful advice, as well as the stories he loved to share from his college days and ministry. His charm and quick wit was enjoyed by all who knew him. Stan faithfully and tirelessly served his Savior Jesus Christ, and his life touched countless people as he endeavored to help them in their Christian walk.
Stan is survived by his wife Miriam and their three children, Rachel (Eric) Bartels, Kristine (Matias) Espinel, and Stan (Michelle) McCune III, as well as six grandchildren—Morgan, David, Sofia, Brooklyn, Emma and Megan, and his sister Pat (Charlie) Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Anchor Baptist Church in Little River, SC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Longs, SC. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts can be made to the Anchor Baptist Church Ministry Center Building Fund.
