Billy Wayne Sams passed away peacefully at his home in Longs, SC on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 75. Billy was one of five children born to the late Walter and Lillie (Joyce) Sams. He married Barbara Lee Dukes in October 1966 at a small ceremony in Middle River, MD. He and his bride were preparing to celebrate 50 years of marriage this October. He worked as an underground cable splicer for Baltimore Gas & Electric Company
for 23 years before retiring early to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1997.
Billy touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. He never met a stranger, within minutes they would be trading life stories and the two would be instant friends. He loved working outside no matter how hot or cold, just being outdoors was enough for him. He had a knack for woodworking and would design and build the most amazing one of a kind pieces of art.
He loved to grow his own vegetables and work in his yard.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lillie Sams of
Winston-Salem and his eldest brother Walter “Jay” of Baltimore, MD.
Billy is survived by loving wife, Barbara, of Longs, SC; daughter, Rhonda Sams Sprinkel, of Abingdon, MD; daughter of the heart, Candis Coleman, of Longs, SC and her husband, Randy Coleman, whom he thought of like another brother; sister Ruby Gentle of Statesville, NC; brothers David of Winston Salem, NC, Richard of Florence, SC, and Robert of Kernersville, NC; grandsons Mason and Jackson Sprinkel, both of Abingdon, MD.
He will forever be remembered by his family and
countless friends whom were blessed to know him.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate his life and journey home to the Kingdom of Heaven.
The service will be held in the Chapel at Lee funeral Home in Little River, SC
on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 1:00 pm, and will be officiated by
