Steve was my nephew.  I very fondly remember Steve being born right before I went back to college which began after Labor Day.  

I was always excited to get to see Steve when I’d come home for college visits. Steven would often be over at the house as he was babysat while Mary worked, and I remember going for long bike rides to their house and being excited to see what new things Steve would be able to do and show off to me. 

While those early years were exciting and fondly remembered, some of my most cherished memories of Steve are when he’d play with our daughter, Mickayla.  There was about an 8 year difference between them.  

One of the many special memories I have of Steve is from Mickayla’s first birthday party.  She happened to be very sick the day we had a celebration with family and friends. 

However, when Mickayla finally woke up during the party, despite being a bit crankier than normal from not feeling well, Steve doted on her, and was extra patient and kind.  Steve was determined to comfort her and make her smile.  At many other holiday gatherings and events, Steve would always be gentle, caring and patient towards her, although seemed to light up the most when he could be silly and make her laugh.  

Steve’s kind-heart, thoughtfulness and fun-loving, silly nature will be deeply missed.  However, his spirit and presence will always be felt and remembered.  


I remember when the Baker girls and their kids went to the Monee Reservoir to fish. Steven was so helpful to my son,  Adam, giving him tips and pointers on fishing.  :) Rest in peace, Steven. My heart is with you, Mary. <3

Steven was full of energy, always acting goofy and someone to love♥️ He had a good heart to the people he loved❣️

When we were young at family gatherings, Steven would always play with us despite how crazy we got sometimes. He has always so kind, and especially so when I lost my dad and he offered his kind words and support. Steven will be missed by many every day and our family gatherings will definitely feel different without him there. 

Steven would always be his goofy self at Schimpf Christmas parties and he would give everyone a good strong bear hug. He also talked to me and gave me comfort at my dads funeral and at the hospital . He was fun and loving in nature but he would be there when you needed it most. The Schimpf family gatherings won’t be the same without him 

Steven even as a young boy was full of life and curiosity, and loved to explore nature.  I remember him looking for bugs in the woods or fishing at a pond.  He was at times mischievous and fun-loving, but he always had a sweet and gentle soul.  I can so see Steven now up in heaven next to beautiful, serene lake just chilling out and happily fishing.  Steven, I'm going to miss your big hugs you give everyone at family gatherings, your goofy smile, and most of all your presence. I want you to save me a seat next to your favorite fishing spot.  I'll be joining you someday and I'm gonna also expect one of your big bear hugs from you.  We miss and love you so much.

I remember every Christmas when I was younger he would come in with the biggest smile on his face and come run and chase after my cousins and I for hours on end. Family reunions and gatherings wouldn't have been the same without his goofy self. He always loved when I would make him cards for his birthday and all the stories he told us will definitely make me laugh thinking about. He had the biggest heart and I will forever cherish our memories growing up together - I couldn't have asked for a more kind cousin. It breaks my heart he is no longer with us, but I know that his spirit will forever remain in our family. I can't wait to see him again someday. I'll always have so much love for him.
