Beth Michelle Ivy-Hernandez was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 30, 1964 to Henry Howard Ivy (who preceded her in death) and Alcurtis Ivy. Beth had a beautiful smile, a contagious laugh and loving ways about her that touched many people as she journeyed through her life. She was always adding loved ones to the Ivy and Hernandez families. She loved everyone’s children as if they were her own. She made each one feel as though they were her favorite. When Beth loved you, you were truly loved and you knew it!
Beth accepted Christ at an early age. She religiously attended Sunday school, was a Junior Usher, sang in the Youth Choir, attended leadership conferences, worked as co-chairperson for the Harvest Festival, participated in the Hospitality Ministry, served as Women’s Day Speaker and participated in the Children and Youth Ministry. Beth worked diligently and loved to serve her Walls Memorial C.M.E. Church family.
Beth graduated from St. Eulalia Elementary School in 1978 and Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in 1982. She received her Associate Degree from Triton College in 1984, continuing her education at Lewis University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1986. Beth met the love of her life while attending Lewis University.
Beth’s career path led to numerous leadership positions, including Call Center Director and for many years, as a Human Resources professional. Her spirit was instrumental in her interactions with everyone from direct reports to colleagues to vice presidents of Sprint and Blue Cross Blue Shield. She helped, mentored and guided numerous persons on their respective career paths. The outpouring from all those whom she helped in some way or another is absolutely amazing! It is truly a testament to her kind spirit and beautiful personality.
Beth and Norman’s courtship was full of laughter, love, and romance! They married September 5, 1992. This union was blessed with their son, Norman Alessandro Hernandez II, whom they love dearly. Beth became a basketball mom, band mom, and the most awesome soccer mom! She could compete with and win against any cheerleading squad! She also was the family's “Mac and Cheese Queen!” She could not participate in a family event without bringing her specialty. And whether in a work or family meeting, she kept everyone on task with her famous words, “Let’s Keep it Moving!”
Beth leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, her loving and devoted husband, Norman, the apple of her eye her son Norman Alessandro (Deuce), mother Alcurtis Ivy, brothers Herman Ivy (Maywood, IL); Herbert (Marilyn) Saunders of Mulberry, FL; sisters Belinda (Bradford) Traywick of Yorkville, IL; Loretta Day of Aurora, IL; Yvonne Knight of Leesburg, VA; Landa (Fred) Midgley of Aurora, IL; Alma (Dennis) Garner of Oswego, IL; brothers in law Benny (Sandy) Hernandez of Surprise, AZ; Adalberto (Carmen) Hernandez of Hammond, IN; Victor (Betsy) Hernandez of Cicero, IL; Reinaldo (Karla) Hernandez of Munster, IN; sister-in-law Carmen (Fred) Ramos North Las Vegas; Pedro (Joyce) Carrasquillo, of Chicago, IL; and Carmelo Carrasco (Marisol), of Green Bay, WI.
