It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of loving wife and mother, Mary A. Stodolak (nee) Grossi who entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 1, 2024 at the age of 91 peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving husband and adoring children.
Mary was born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 30, 1932 to the late Vittoria Grossi (nee) Rosatti and Serafino Grossi. She met the love of her life by happenstance while Joe Sr. was on a home visit from the Army, leading to an immediate connection. Following a two-year courtship while he served in the Army, they married on November 15, 1958. Her true calling and passion came when she started her family, which was evident to all who knew her. She was selflessly dedicated to her husband and seven children. Mom was the central figure in the lives of all of her children; a beacon of hope and unwavering love, frequently expressing her faith in each of us. An example of unimaginable strength, perseverance, determination, and resilience.
Mary was blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, bringing her immense joy. Nothing brought her more pleasure than another child in her lap and the expansion of her family. She loved holidays, cooking, baking, and opening her home to family and friends to gather. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, and listening to her favorite country musicians, especially Merle Haggard. She loved talking about everything and nothing was off the table. She took a keen interest in the happenings of the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was witty with a wicked sense of humor, frequently laced with truth finding the humor in it all. She loved a good laugh and had a contagious one at that. She enjoyed road trips whether across country or a ride to the country or the Jersey shore as well as time with her friends. She especially appreciated and looked forward to her frequent visits from her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Everett, and her sister Julie when she was no longer able to travel with ease. Above all, she cherished time spent with her adoring family and husband and was steadfast in her faith in God.
Mary is pre-deceased by her cherished son Joseph F. Stodolak Jr., five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Joseph Sr.; her son Steven; her daughters, Deborah, Diane, Sharon, Susan, and Karen; sons-in-law Ed, Elio, and Marlon; daughter-in-law Lori; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Verna, Julie, and Anne.
She will be deeply missed.
In honor of her last wishes, visitation and entombment will be private.
All are invited to attend mass at St. Adalbert’s Church, Elizabeth, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10:00 am.
