Russell A. Williss, age 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He was born on December 17, 1933 in Gage County, Nebraska as the second child of James and Celestine (Cripe) Williss. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Rockford High School. He served in the Army and Army reserves from 1953 to 1961, worked at American Stores packing plant in Lincoln for 21 years and for the Lincoln Public Schools for 20 years. He was an active member of the Lincoln Church of Christ for 55 years.
He married Jean Wilcox on March 29, 1969 and together they raised two sons: David C. Williss and John R. Williss. Russ was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a serious Bible student and enjoyed hunting, weight lifting, yard work, and reading biographies and history.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, David Williss and John Williss (Cassie Day); five grandchildren: Katy Bremer (Jordan), John Williss (Kelsey), Benjamin Williss, Rachel Williss, and Andrew Williss; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Shirley Jirovec (Richard). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Williss; and sisters, Mary Fanders and Marjorie Borgerding.
A visitation for Russell will be held Monday, November 18, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A memorial service will occur Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Church of Christ Lincoln, 5640 Vine Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68504.
