Richard (Rick, Ricky) Dean Lewis was born and raised in Grand Island, Nebraska and spent his adult life in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was married to the love of his life and soulmate, Shelly Kelly-Lewis for 34 years which were full of more ups and downs, heartache and incredible joy than most couples experience in a lifetime. They had two children together, Travis Lewis and Samantha (Lewis) Negley and raising them was his greatest joy. They had the pleasure of growing their family with a wonderful daughter in law, Hillary Lewis and incredible son in law, Addison Negley. They got to experience the immense blessing of 6 beautiful grandchildren; 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson whom Rick got to greet in Heaven with open arms.
Rick was an amazing man full of life, fun and joy. He was always there to greet you first thing in the morning with a “Top of the morning to ya!” or “Happy Day!” and an excessive amount of joy and optimism than most of us can’t stand at 6am. He started every day with a smile, ready to spread love to everyone. He was known for his smile and readiness to talk to anyone and everyone. He was an incredibly hard worker who loved his job as an iron worker at Pleskac & Pleskac Inc, where he worked for nearly 30 years and had the joy of working with his son, Travis for many of those years. All the guys he worked with were family to him and to the rest of his family.
He was also known for his love of music, specifically rock, and the ability to give you any song name, artist, album, or fact at the drop of a hat and he made sure to raise his kids to know that too.
There is no one who met Rick that didn’t feel his warmth and welcoming personality. He never let anyone question his love and made sure to remind us all daily with notes, texts, calls, hugs, and surprises any way he could. He will be remembered for that love.
He was the absolute best Papa. His grandkids will remember him as their superhero, just like his favorite hero, Spiderman, and they will be reminded of their Papa in every Spidey they see. He loved them unconditionally and we trust that they’ll always know that.
We know that Rick was welcomed into Heaven by: Jesus, his parents, Richard and Betty Lewis, his in-laws, Ralph and Pat Kelly, his grandson Elijah Negley, and so many more friends and family. We thank God knowing that he is happy and whole, relieved of any and all earthly troubles and that we will get to see him again someday.
We kindly request casual attire for Rick’s viewing and funeral, he certainly won’t be dressed up for us. Feel free to wear anything that reminds you of Rick such as, band shirts, Raiders gear, or Spiderman. Thank you.
