Norma J Owens

Jean Owens (Norma) Jean Owens, age 90, of Lincoln died on August 22, 2017. She was born on May 15, 1927 in Lyons, Nebraska to Noble and Evelyn (Anson) Nelsen. Jean attended school in Lyons, Fremont, Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jean taught at two rural schools in Lyons and Oakland, in Bancroft Public School, Allen, Wayne, Wayne State College, Nebraska Wesleyan, and the University of Nebraska in the Lincoln Sun Program. She completed her career with Lincoln Public Schools as a Coordinator. Jean married Orvid Owens on June 12, 1949 in Lyons. They were married for 52 years. She was a member of Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. She was active in her church, professional groups and music activities. Jean lived at Eastmont Towers after her husband’s death in 2002. Jean is survived by her daughters, Jane Owens of Boston; Ann Owens and her husband, Robin Forman, of New Orleans; Sue and Bob Hedrick of Lincoln; three grandsons, Saul Forman, Jackson Hedrick and Sam Hedrick; brother, Rick Nelsen; many relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Gordon. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Eastmont Towers or Bridges to Hope.
