Maxine B. Pfeiffer of Cortland passed away on Monday, June 26th. She was born April 21, 1925 in Firth NE. Her parents were Edward H. Lueders and Carolyn C. (Papke) Lueders. She graduated from Cortland High School.
Maxine was married to Dale J. Pfeiffer in 1949 and together they had 4 children.
Susan (Tim) Young, James (Cheryl) Pfeiffer, Janis (Dave) Steward, and Norman (Tammi) Pfeiffer. In addition she is survived by eight grandchildren; Shannon Boyer, Sarah Kotschwar, Matt Pfeiffer, Briana Prai, Jacob Steward, Micah Pfeiffer, Clinton Young and Angie Young-Eggert; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She loved all her family!
She worked as a switchboard operator for the Cortland Telephone Co. in the 1940's. She talked about being a teen and living with other families to take care of children while the parents were farming during the summers. She went door to door as a Red Cross collection volunteer. She worked for the Gage County Election Board and was the Cortland correspondent for the Voice News for many years. She and Dale loved traveling to Air Force reunions and hosting the group in Lincoln. Her hobbies included sewing clothing and making Raggedy Ann dolls, gardening and canning vegetables and fruit, and volunteering for community events. She was a member of the Cortland United Church and the Cortland Senior Diners group. She loved playing Bingo and doing word search puzzles. Her favorite thing was getting hugs from the great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Dale Pfeiffer; brothers Donald Lueders, Milan Lueders, Lamar Lueders and Roger Lueders; sisters Doris Graham, RoJane Wicken and Linda Lueders and son-in-law Larry Lawrence.
