

Born into a large family in a humble coal mining town in Ramey, Colorado, Joe was the son of Guadalupe and Clorinda Velazquez. His upbringing instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication which he carried with him throughout his life. These values were evident in his long career with Burlington Northern, where he was known for his commitment and reliability. His passion for trains extended beyond his work, as he spent countless hours in later years enjoying his model train set that he built with his son, JR, and tinkering in his garage for home maintenance and woodworking hobbies, all of which brought him immense joy and satisfaction. He was a familiar face at Good Shepherd Lutheran, often assisting to help clean and maintain the church, contributing to its upkeep characteristics of his generous spirit and willingness to always lend a helping hand.
Joe was a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy, of 45 years and a loving father to his son, JR. Joe also embraced his role as a step-father with loving loyalty and commitment to his family.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy Velasquez; children, Joe (Emily) Velasquez; step-children, Paul Sebek, Lisa Sebek, Deborah Sebek; siblings, Delores (Carmel) Cordova, Helen Velasquez, Edward Velasquez; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Those who love and know Joe, remember him as always willing to lend a helping hand to others. His dedication, generosity and warmth leaves a lasting impression on many.
A celebration of life for Joseph will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2001 South 11 Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68502.
