Carol Margaret Schmidt

Carol Margaret Schmidt joined her husband Derril in heaven on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the age of 87. Carol was born in Arcadia Nebraska on October 24, 1936 and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1955. She moved to Lincoln Nebraska shortly after and married Derril Schmidt on August 7, 1955.

Carol worked at a doctor’s office, Russell Stovers Candies, Lincoln City Recreation, Lincoln Christian School, the Penner family, Fabric Village, Four Star Drug and NASS. During the 20 years their daughters were students at LCS she did volunteer work in many areas at the school. Most of all she enjoyed being a Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. After Derril’s death in 1983, Carol attended First Free Church and was active in the Widows Group, the Altogether Singles Group and the Widows Support Group. Carol enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with friends and later on her many Bus Tours. In June of 2022 Carol moved to Bailey Pointe Assisted Living and although it was difficult to leave her home of 63 years, she made many good friends and enjoyed spending time playing dominoes and bingo, doing puzzles, crafting and many other activities.

Carol is survived by her daughters Brenda Johnson, Karla (Pat) Hofmann and Paula Forney. Grandchildren: Laura (Rick) Runde, Christopher (Emily) Forney, Kailey Cole, Justine (Alex) Darst, Joshua Johnson, Kendra Johnson, Kortney (Jared) Beal, Amber (Alex) Rourke and Newt (Nicole) Hofmann. Great-grandchildren: Ava and Josie Runde, Gage and Griffin Forney, Natilee Johnson, Benson, Cooper, Bristol and Hazel Beal, Bryson, Braydon and Brenton Rourke, Sahara and Syrus Hofmann. Siblings Donna Fisher and Dale Zentz. Numerous Nephews and Nieces and many close friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Derril, son-in-law David Johnson, great-grandson Gavin Forney and her siblings John, Harold, and Joyce Zentz.

A memorial service for Carol will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Free Evangelical Church, 3280 South 84th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68506. Memorials can be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at lincolnfh.com.
