John was a simple man that loved his family more than anything. He made sure to keep in touch with all of them as often as he could, whether they were as close as the next town over or as far away as Ireland; John made sure to let everyone know he was thinking about them, he loved them and he was only a phone call away if anyone ever needed him. And he always meant it. John never made a promise he didn’t keep; and if he couldn’t promise, he’d always ‘promise to try’ or ‘we’ll see’(which his girls learned was usually a nicer way of saying no 😋).
John graduated Lincoln High School in January 1974, a few months earlier than the rest of his Senior class. He wanted to join the US Army, which he did in February 1974. He was stationed in Hawaii, a time and place that he loved telling his girls about; one of his favorite memories.
He returned home to Sheridan in November 1975. He soon met his future wife, Elizabeth Collard. Shortly after, Erica was born in October 1976, followed by Jessica in December 1978 and finally Tabbatha in August 1983 (favorite from day one😋).
John and Elizabeth grew apart, and eventually the girls decided to stay with their Dad. John’s life revolved around caring for his girls; whether he was the only Cheer Dad, running car loads of giggly girls to games; flipping the porch light on & off to let the boys know it was time to leave; struggling to get to work on time after fighting to get them up in the morning; or just lazy weekends at home, he was always there without fail (and they didn’t always make things easy for him! 😬)
John attended and graduated Yuba College, specializing in Horticulture; he always had a green thumb and loved having a nice yard when people would stop by.
John began working for Platt Electric, commuting from Lincoln to Woodland for many years before transferring to Yuba City. He made a lot of good friends over the 31 years with Platt; coworkers and customers he considered as close as family and spoke fondly of often.
John was an active member of the American Legion in Lincoln. He always enjoyed the time he spent with everyone there. He was especially proud of the Veterans Memorial Wall that he played a part in having constructed at McBean Park in Lincoln.
He was also a loyal member of the St Daniels Catholic Church in Wheatland, where he would attend with his mother for several years and continued attending after her passing. He grew close to the people there.
John had sweet, sincere blue eyes and a mischievous grin that could melt your heart and a genuine laugh that could cheer anyone up. He was loving and caring and kind to everyone all the way to the end. Even when he was feeling his worst, he went out of his way to make sure you knew he was there, still smiling as if nothing was wrong.
We’re going to miss the moods, the random knocks on the door, the text or emails asking if we’re still out there, the sarcasm when we’d answer, his voicemail “Hey… this is your Dad; give me a call when you get a chance. Love you my Dear. Talk to you later. Bye”
You are in every memory, you were loved more than you will ever know and will be missed every single day….
Forever in our hearts…
We love you Dad ❤️❤️❤️
