Paul R. Mooney, age 83 of Lima, died peacefully at 3:09 a.m., on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at his residence. He was born Aug. 19, 1934 in Lima, the son of Charles and Katherine (Felver) Mooney, whom preceded him in death. On May 5, 1956, he married Rosemary Shortino who survives and they were married for over 62 years.
Also surviving are their children: Deborah (Jack King) Romano of Lima, Mark (Isabel) Mooney of Indian Lake, Kathleen (Joe) Fleischman and Ida Mooney both of Lima; three siblings: Tom (Melinda) Mooney of McLean, VA, Sue (Mike) Barton of Rockford, IL and Mary Hoehn of Middletown, OH; two sisters-in-law; Marie Mooney of Lima and Eileen Maxwell of Cridersville; six grandchildren: Christopher (Kristy) Carge, Danielle Carge, Nicole (Drew Anthony) Romano, Ashley (Brad Liebrecht) Mooney, Abbey (Dave) Schnell and Kristina (Austin) Clarkson; three step grandchildren: Reymundo (Heather) Ortiz, Veronica Ortiz and Natalia Ortiz; five great-grandchildren: Lauren Stull, Ava Carge, Jacob Hlabse, Giada Carge and Marin Carge; and two step great-grandchildren: Ciana Ortiz and Ezekiel Ortiz; plus many nieces and nephews.
The following siblings preceded him in death: John Mooney, Charles Mooney, Pat Mooney and Martha Eley.
Mr. Mooney retired after 34 years at Teledyne/Ohio Steel where he was an iron roll molder and he was president of UAW Local 975. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved to fish and attend his grandchildren’s events. He was a Notre Dame fan and loved his family tremendously.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 in St. John’s Catholic Church, Lima, with Revs. Steve Blum and David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W. Post 1275 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, where a Parish Wake service will be held at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
