Anna Rose Youngpeter Ruen, 77, of Delphos, died at 2:52 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born July 9, 1941 in Landeck to Clarence Hubert and Alma (Shirack) Youngpeter, both of whom preceded her in death. On Oct. 6, 1962, she married Frederick Alexander Ruen who preceded her in death on April 9, 2013.
She is survived by her siblings: Donald Eugene Youngpeter of Daleville, AL, Richard Joseph (A.J. Schroeder) Youngpeter of Ft. Jennings, Leon Adam (Diane) Youngpeter of Ft. Wayne, IN, Joseph Clarence Youngpeter of Landeck and Ruth Agnes (Ronald) Falter of Columbia, SC.
Also surviving are a son: Douglas Ronald (Lisa) Ruen of New Haven, IN and four daughters: Lenore Ruen (Frederick) Colhoun of Kingsport, TN, Monica Ruen (Howard) Waidley of Dexter, MI, Kathleen (Adam) Cain of Auburn, IN and Elizabeth Rose (Scott) Wurst of Delphos. Anna also leaves eighteen grandchildren to remember her: Rachel Anna (Bryan) Sipe, Laura Elizabeth (Josh) Lyle, Alyssa Anne and Erin Amelia Colhoun, Victoria Ann, Danielle Cynthia and Johnathon Howard Waidley, Logan Renee Haines (Nathan) Blankemeyer, Raegan Marie and Morgan Brittany Haines, Abigail Diane and Sara Jane Cain, Emma Rose, Eli Daniel and August Allen Wurst, Travis (Tricia) Osting , Todd (Kelbi) Osting and Emily (Nate) Hensley; six great-grandchildren and one on the way. She also leaves behind her beloved, gentle giant, “Tucker”.
She is also preceded in death by a sister, Leona Mary Youngpeter; daughter-in-law, Janet Ruen, and three sisters-in-law, Helen Youngpeter, Marilyn Youngpeter and Carol Youngpeter.
Anna was a 1959 graduate of St. John’s High School, Delphos. She attended Mary Manse College, Toledo, and during the summers, she taught summer school at Nazareth Hall, Toledo. She taught St. John’s Elementary for two years and Ottoville Elementary for one year. She drove school bus for both Jefferson and St. John’s schools for twenty-one years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she was also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of St. John’s Holy Spirit Prayer Group. Mom had the voice of an angel and shared it with the Adult Choir, the Ensemble Singing Group, and was an adult cantor. Over the years, Anna helped many families plan the final rites and church services for deceased family members, working with both Harter Funeral Home and Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Homes. She was a member of Sisters of Notre Dame Lay Ministry Associates (Anna never refused an opportunity to speak). She was also a member of Landeck Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council #84.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2-8 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, Delphos, where the C.L. of C. will hold a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. and a Parish Wake will be held at 8 p.m.
