William Jacob Pence, III

Jacob was born in Woodstock, Virginia. He attended Liberty School and was a graduate of Eastern Randolph High School where he excelled on the golf team. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree from Western North Carolina University.

Jacob never met a stranger, and he was blessed with a magnetic charm and charisma that he translated into a successful career in sales with CA Technologies in New York, New York. He recently made the transition from Inside Sales to Territory Account Manager on the Northeast Application Delivery Team, and he gave his time and enthusiasm to the Year Up mentoring program in the city. Prior to living in New York, Jacob lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, Los Angeles, California, and Austin, Texas – always adding to the long list of lives he touched along his way.

As a little boy, Jacob played basketball and baseball on the Liberty Parks and Recreation teams and even spent summers travelling with All Star baseball teams to tournaments around the state. He discovered golf at 12, igniting a lifelong passion for a hobby at which he became an exceptional talent.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Liberty. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Forge United Methodist Church in Edinburg, Virginia followed by a reception. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Earl Rush Stout; his aunt, Cynthia Pence Leake and his cousin, Kimberly Leake.

Jacob is the son of William “Jake” Jacob Pence, Jr. and Doris “Dee” Stout; also surviving is his beloved sister Nina Rebecca Pence; maternal grandmother, Nina Kivett Stout; paternal grandparents, Maxine and William Pence; uncle, Jeff Pence and wife, Elena; and cousins, William Wachter and Natalie Pence.
