James Edward “Eddie” Caviness, age 72 of Climax, passed away peacefully April 20, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side. He suffered an aortic dissection on August 14, 2018, and many other health issues followed that ultimately changed his quality of life, but he fought the good fight up until the end.
Eddie was born in Greensboro, NC on April 15, 1951, to parents, James Kenney and Clarsie Marie Jenkins Caviness. He graduated from Southeast Guilford High School in 1969 and went on to build a successful 38-year career in the elevator industry with Dover, ASK, Montgomery and until his retirement at 58 years young Kone Elevator. He was a “self-taught” man that traveled to many states and was highly sought after and respected for his work ethic, mechanical skills and knowledge of elevators. After his retirement and up until his illness, he was an active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Greensboro Moose Lodge 685 as the Administrator. In addition to his career, with the help of his family he built a beautiful farm in Climax and raised beef cattle.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clarise.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rory “Punk” Caviness; son, Chad Caviness (Amber) of Climax; daughter, Brandy Caviness Moran (Eddie) of Franklinville; grandchildren, Luke Caviness, Caleb Apple, Dylan Pierce and Allie Pierce; father, James K Caviness (Dollie) of Climax; brothers, Steve Caviness (Lynne) of Pleasant Garden, Cleve Caviness (Robin) of Randleman and Terry Caviness (Becky) of Liberty; as well as, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and especially his faithful fur baby Trump.
He was affectionately called Pop Pop by his grandchildren and he loved them fiercely; his legacy will live on through them.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty, 212 W. Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty, NC. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at The Loflin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joseph M. Fulk III officiating; burial will follow at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, NC.
