Vicki L. Vance, 71, of Liberty, Missouri passed peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2020 with family by her side. Her life had an impact on many in Liberty, through her various roles in the community. Vicki graduated from Liberty High School, and went on to teach for the Liberty Public School District for 26 years. During that phase of her career, Vicki and her family ran Timber Trails Day Camp during summer breaks, leaving joyful memories in hundreds of young minds and hearts. After a post-public school career that took her through the airways as an early childhood consultant, Vicki returned to Liberty in the role that most who have met her recently knew her: the bright, spunky, and dedicated face of Historic Downtown Liberty. Her longstanding love and support for Liberty was well-known and appreciated.
Vicki was born in Stanberry, Missouri, the first child of Manley and Lenna Vance. The family moved to Liberty in 1961, setting the stage for Vicki’s love of this community. Vicki was a long-standing member and elder at Liberty Christian Church. Her deep connection to those who knew her was evident in the recently expressed comments and memories. These words elicited smiles and tears among many.
Vicki is survived by her son, Josh Ellis, her mother, Lenna Vance, two sisters, Valeri Lane and Karen Vance, two nephews Cody Lane and Nathan Johnson, and a grand niece and nephew, Stella and Evan Lane.
A celebration of Vicki’s life is being planned for a later date, and will be posted when details are available. In recognition of Vicki’s passion for downtown small businesses, the family suggests purchasing gift cards at the small business of your choice in her name, gifted to someone you love. As she so often said, “Together we’re better.”
