LEXINGTON- William W. “Bill” Hatfield, 68, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016. Bill was a loving and caring husband, father, community leader and friend to all, and his presence will be deeply missed
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 25, at 3:00 p.m. at Lexington United Methodist Church.
Born October 13, 1947 in West Hamlin, Lincoln County, West Virginia, Bill was the son of the late, Kathryn Ford Hatfield and Lycurgus Hatfield, Jr. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1972 after distinguished service in the Vietnam War as a Tactical Communications Chief. He attended Kent State University and Limestone College, and his love of telecommunications subsequently led to positions with Mid Continent Telephone Company, Windstream, Alltel, and Comporium, from which he retired in 2015 as a Senior Account Executive. Active in the Lexington community, Bill was a longtime member of the Lexington Rotary and a charter member of the West Metro Rotary Club, where he served as President, Director, and was a Paul Harris Fellow and member of the Paul Harris Society. Bill was past President of the Lexington and Batesburg-Leesville Chambers of Commerce, a graduate of Leadership Lexington County, and co-founder and first President of the One Voice group. An advocate for education, he participated in the Lexington 4 Community Partnership and helped raise scholarship funds for the Glenforest School.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pamela; sons, William Charles Hatfield; Wesley Andrew (Diane) Hatfield; brothers, Gordon (Kathy) Hatfield; Tim (Penny) Hatfield; sister, Deena Hatfield Miller; two grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Genora Hatfield.
