Wilbur Jason Hite 90 and 6 months passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 14, 2024. He loved his family unconditionally and was loved by many in return. Born April 3,1934 to the late Jason Patrick Hite and Rosa Corley Hite. Wilbur was predeceased by his bride of over 50 years, Lucille Betty Shumpert Hite.
He was a lifelong member of St David Lutheran Church and also served his country in the United States Army. Wilbur was a carpenter by trade working alongside his father for many years and working with the late Parnell Cannon, George Wise, Sam Steele, Tal Ricard and Blaine Hylton. Later working with his nephews Larry and Ronnie Ricard until he retired at age 62. He was a part of many homes built throughout Lexington and was the last surviving member that helped build St David Lutheran Church and Educational buildings as we know them today.
He was also the last surviving member of his immediate family and also the last on his wife's side of the family. He was predeceased by his siblings, Louise Hite Dooley, Norman Hite, Vera Hite Dooley, John Hite, Harold Hite, Lonnie Hite, Estelle Hite Ricard, Mabel Hite, Billy Hite and Lewis Hite.
He is survived by his children; Mark Hite (Shanna), Stanley Hite (Russell), and Terry Hite (Kathy).
Grandchildren; Jared Hite, Travis Hite (Lauren), Karlynn Hite Benbow (James) and Brianna Hite; Great grandchildren, Emma Hite, Zoey Benbow, Dominic Benbow.
Wilbur loved his Atlanta Braves and Carolina Gamecocks. He loved hunting quail, loved nature and growing flowers and having a vegetable garden. He was well known for his green thumb.
A special thank you to all the staff at OPUS Post acute rehabilitation for the love and care given these past two years. We were given some extra time with our dad due to your care. Also thank you to Agape Hospice Care for taking care of dad these past two weeks as he became weaker.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St David Lutheran Church in memory of Wilbur.
Thank you to all who shared in loving our dad as he loved back. Pallbearers will be his immediate family members.
A visitation for Wilbur will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 N. Lake Dr, Lexington, South Carolina 29072. A funeral service will occur Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 3:00 PM at St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. Davids Church Road, West Columbia, South Carolina 29170 with burial following the service.
