He was a technician for several companies after being honorably discharged from the Navy and Army National Guard. He loved building things and could build anything he put his mind to such as remote control planes, cars and furniture. In recent years, he even built a full size boat to go fishing. Just like his father, Tom truly enjoyed working in the yard and planting flowers. He had a passion for it and was always outside. He was so, so talented.
His most loved place and the place of so many family memories is St. George Island, Florida. His ashes will be scattered there at a later date. That will make him very happy.
He was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and cherished his time with his men's small group. Tom was a true testament to the redemptive work of the Lord, especially during his illness. He had awe-inspiring faith. His greatest joy in life were his two children and his grandchildren. He absolutely loved being a Papa.
Tom is survived by his wife, Robin; son, Nicholas; daughter-in-law, Laura; daughter, Macall; son-in-law, Jonathan; grandsons, JR, Tucker, and Grayson. He is also survived by his sister, Connie; brother, Rob; sisters-in-law, Michelle, Lori and Katy and brother-in-law, George in addition to his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, George; mother, Dorthy; brother, George and brother, Mike.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring to honor the wonderful man that he was.

The family would like to thank all of their friends and prayer warriors for the mountain of support that was offered throughout Tom's illness. They could not have gotten through the last 15 months without them and the Lord they love so much.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Johnston family.
