WEST COLUMBIA – A funeral Mass for Theresa Claire Frierson Corbin, 53, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Highway, Lexington, SC officiated by the Reverend Raymond Carlo.
Theresa was born September 26, 1962 in Savannah, GA and passed away peacefully Monday, December 21, 2015, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was a graduate of Lexington High School, RN degree from Midlands Technical College and University of South Carolina, Columbia. Her NeoNatal Nurse Practitioner Certification (CNNP) was conferred by the University of West Virginia, Morgantown, West Virginia. She practiced at Palmetto Health Richland NICU, Columbia and later at Carolinas Medical Center - University NICU, Charlotte, NC, until her early retirement.
She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Mark E. Corbin, and beloved children, Emory Corbin (Ashley) of Lexington, SC , Marjorie E. Corbin (Ben Nauss) of Charleston, SC, Ethan Corbin of the home, grandsons, Samuel Knox Corbin, Trevor Kale Corbin, her mother, Marjorie Schachte Frierson, sister, Lynne Frierson Thomas, brothers, Sam H. Frierson III (Letty) and Randall W. Frierson (Tracy), mother-in-law, Jacqueline P. Corbin, nieces and nephews, Alyssa T. Hewitt, Amy Thomas, Jacklyn Caulder, Morgan and Evelyn Frierson, and Sydni, Cassidy and Luke Frierson, her great-nephew, Michael Peyton Hewitt, sisters-in-law, Pam Brawley (Allison “Skeeter”) and Paige Stevens (Reid), many aunts, uncles, and cousins, Theresa’s devoted “sisters” and fellow CNNP’s, Rose Marie Timmons, Karen Fennell, Medical Specialist, Lisa Knight, and Neonatologist, Art Payne, MD, as well as the unwavering support of Don Thompson of Charlotte.
She was predeceased by her father, Sam H. Frierson, Jr.,; grandparents, William L. and Mary F. Schachte, and Sam H., Sr. and Lottie F .Frierson, all of Charleston, nephew, and godson, Joshua Gunnar Frierson, brother-in-law, Michael L. Thomas and father-in-law Dewey E. Corbin.
The family deeply appreciates the compassionate, skilled care of Jonathan M. Gerber, MD, his staff and Jessie Hahn, RN, CMC Charlotte (Hematologiy/Oncology-4B).
Theresa was devoted to her Lord and Savior, her family, relatives, colleagues and friends, and always put others needs before her own. Many of her patients entered this life in the tiniest of human form, and each received the best of her noted assessment and clinical skills as well as her warm, loving and tender touch. Since childhood, Theresa loved all of God’s non-human creatures as well. Many horses, dogs and cats flourished under her care through the years.
The family will receive guests in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington, SC, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society of America, The Humane Society, or charity of one’s choice.
