Susan Henry Etta Frye, 74, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina to David and Henry Etta Caughman Frye. She was a graduate of Lexington High School and Palmer Business School. Always concerned for the well-being of others, Susan was a dedicated public servant and worked for the SC Department of Corrections for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC.
Susan’s greatest treasures in life were her family and friends. She took great pride in always “being in the know,” sending many letters, cards, and small gifts to celebrate every occasion – big or small. She delighted in making delicious bites and often arrived at events stylishly dressed with a bouquet of flowers and a pickle tray. Being a Carolina girl, she enjoyed going to the beach, dancing, and rooting for her Carolina Gamecocks. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially for her infectious laugh and kind and loving spirit.
Survivors include one brother, David “Buddy” (Pope) Frye, Jr.; three nieces, Renee (Randy) Nolff, Nancy (Robbie) Marlowe, and Amy (Robin) Redd; two nephews, Berley (Randal) Lindler, III, and David Frye, III; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. Susan was predeceased by one sister, Mary Catherine (Berley, Jr.) Frye Lindler – with whom she is no doubt enjoying a glass of chardonnay and holding her cat “Snoopers.”
Please join the family in celebrating her life on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. for a graveside service at St. David Lutheran Church, located at 132 St. David’s Church Road in West Columbia, SC, with the Reverend Doctor Tony Metze officiating. The family will receive visitors afterward at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Humane Society of South Carolina (405 Greenlawn Dr., Columbia, SC, 29209), the American Stroke Association (PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX, 75284-0692), or a charity of your choosing.
