LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Robert Homer Monts, 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with burial in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will include Jack Sox, Stratton Melonas, Jay Harmon, Donald Bland, Wayne Norris and Wayne McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will include Jimmy Smith and the Lexington High School Class of 1956. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1500 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, SC 29169.
Mr. Monts was born December 22, 1937 in Lexington and passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. He was a son of the late Clinton Leroy and Sarah Josephine Seay Monts. Mr. Monts was a 1956 graduate of Lexington High School and a proud team member of the LHS football team. He was honored to play in the 1955 Shrine Bowl and he was later inducted into the Lexington High School Hall of Fame in 2001. He attended Newberry College on an athletic scholarship to play football. Mr. Monts was a lifelong member of the Sinclair Masonic Lodge #154 in West Columbia and served as past Master. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, the Jamil Sportsters Unit and was on the Planning and Zoning Board of the city of West Columbia.
Mr. Monts is survived by his wife, Betty S. Monts of West Columbia; sons, Garry Monts (Gina) of Lexington and Derek Monts (Annette) of West Columbia; daughter, Cindy Melonas (George) of Chapin; brothers, J.B. Monts (Betty) and Willie Monts (Brenda), both of Lexington, Thomas Monts (Sandy) of Greer and Gregg Monts of Gilbert; sisters, Elizabeth Dooley (Roscoe) and Loretta Ritenour (Ed), both of Lexington and five grandchildren he cherished and loved so dearly, Cody Monts, Sara Ann and Hanna Monts and Stephen and Savannah Melonas. He was predeceased by his parents.
